As the single mother of a grown daughter, Jenna convinces herself that her life’s biggest events are over. But a small voice keeps telling her, “You’re not done yet.” When an old friend invites her to Venice to cook for a small retreat group, Jenna responds eagerly. She knows just who to take along: her sister-in-law Sue, who desperately needs her own retreat from the pressures of the past two years. Another benefit is that, unlike Jenna, Sue actually knows how to cook!

Armed with about six words of Italian between them, a map, and a keen appetite for gelato, Jenna and Sue set off to explore the shops and historic churches along the winding canals. They encounter street musicians, singing vendors, amorous gondoliers, a tiny bakery and an injured bird in need of care. Their accommodations in a restored fifteenth-century palace provide them with a kitchen just large enough to boil a pot of pasta, a memorable marble stairwell and a rooftop that offers an enchanting view of Venice at night.

As these two Sisterchicks move from season of deep shadows into a time of refreshment they realize that the most important thing for them to do next in their lives is just show up…and watch for God’s goodness and mercy to follow close behind.
