Core 52: Is the Bible the Only Book You Should Be Reading?

Mark Moore, author of the book CORE 52: A Fifteen-Minute Daily Guide to Build Your Bible IQ in a Year, answers the question, “Should we only read the Bible?”

I want to address a specific question that has come up a number of times on the website. The question is this, why would I study another book and not just read the Bible?

It’s a fair question.

The Bible is God’s Word. In fact, the whole purpose of Core 52 is to get you in to the Bible, not to replace the Bible. Buy to answer to the question, we read other books for the same reason we might listen to a sermon at church…because God has gifted certain men and women in the church to be teachers, to clarify and amplify and apply Scriptures in a practical way. That’s really all I’m trying to do, which is to identify those passages with the highest return on investment that will allow you to go further faster.

Or maybe you think of it this way, when you travel to a foreign country, it’s good to have a guide. Now you can explore on your own for sure, but you will see more and observe more and understand more with a guide who has gone there before. So, I hope that I can be that guide for you and save you a little bit of time, save you a little bit of energy, maybe allow you to see more than you would have before.

After all, God’s Word is the inspired Word of God, and it’s profitable for teaching, reproof, for correcting, and training in righteousness. And if I can get you further, faster…what a great joy that would be for me. Thanks for being a part of this. And thanks for taking seriously your opportunity to get into God’s Word so that God’s word can come out of you. God bless.

“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”—1 Timothy 4:8

Most of us want to know the Bible better, but few reach our goal, often because we’re too busy or we don’t know where to start. Core 52 removes both barriers, offering a common-sense solution that fits into our busy lives. Respected Bible professor and teaching pastor Mark E. Moore developed this proven process from thirty-five years of helping people grow deeper in God’s Word.

Each week features a brief essay, memory verse, Bible story, trajectory verses, and practical ways to put what you’ve learned into practice. An optional “Overachiever Challenge” offers the chance to memorize the top 100 Bible verses by year’s end.

This simple approach allows you to become familiar with the big ideas of the Bible in less time and with less effort than other reading plans. In one year, you can master the core of the Bible—focusing on topics from God’s will to worry, happiness to holiness, and leadership to love. These fifty-two core passages are lenses through which you can read the rest of the Bible with clarity and confidence.
