About Primal

Our generation needs a reformation.
But a single person won’t lead it.
A single event won’t define it.
Our reformation will be a movement of reformers living creatively, compassionately, courageously for the cause of Christ.
This reformation will not be born of a new discovery.  It will be the rediscovery of something old, something ancient.
Something primal.
Mark Batterson, Primal
What would your Christianity look like if it was stripped down to the simplest, rawest, purest faith possible? You would have more, not less. You would have the beginning of a new reformation—in your generation, your church, your own soul. You would have primal Christianity.
This book is an invitation to become part of a reformation movement. It is an invitation to rediscover the compassion, wonder, curiosity, and energy that turned the world upside down two thousand years ago. It is an invitation to be astonished again.

“Mark weaves us through the Great Commandment with insights that are both winsome and wise, piquing both curiosity and conviction. He calls us to a discipleship free of the trappings of shriveled self-concern, drawing us to give ourselves, with abandon, to others as we heed Jesus’ call to love God above all. This book will fuel clarity of call and persevering strength for those who will journey in obedience to the Gospel—in its wholeness of justice, mercy, and faithfulness—for a lifetime.”
GARY HAUGEN, president and CEO of International Justice Mission and author of Good News About Injustice, Terrify No More, and Just Courage
“Too many of us are doing life at an unsustainable pace and losing sight of our first love. In his new book, Primal, Mark Batterson invites you to rediscover the reality of Christ and His passions. This book will challenge you, push you, and stretch you. You will walk away righteously aggravated, but catapulted into action.”
CRAIG GROESCHEL, senior pastor of
“Mark, I’m with you. It’s time for believers to be more. Let’s hear the voice of God and be that holy, passionate fire that we are called to be. It’s the primal way.”

Mark Batterson has written an impetus for the modern church, and it does not knock on your door, but kicks it in full force. I have read all of Batterson's books and was excited about this one thinking it dealt with his thoughts and views toward the corporate church and our efforts at relevancy in this post-modern world. It was far more challenging as this book was written for me, as the church. Batterson challenges readers to evaluate...

Well written,readable-great ideas, but so many not applicable to the smaller church. Having said that I as was personally challenged for love to be more than a noun in my life.It must be a verb! I appreciated the emphasis on Mark 12:30-The four dynamics of this command make up the core of the book. This brief passage really comes alive via his powerful pen. Mark has the ability to communicate with stories and experiences of his own...

I was one of a lucky few to receive a FREE copy of Mark Batterson's new book titled: Primal. I had previously read Mark's other two books: In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day and Wild Goose Chase, so I jumped at the chance to get a free copy of this book. Mark's premise is that we have lost the Heart, Soul, Mind and Strength of Christianity. We've gone far off of what Christ intended and we need to go down the corridors of our faith and...

Finished up some reading I'm getting pretty far behind on - Multnomah Books sent me a review copy of Mark Batterson's new book Primal: A Quest for the Lost Soul of Christianity. To me, Mark feels like half amateur scientist and half pastor, dragging his readers back in time to the origins of faith with both Scripture and science. My favorite chapter was The Island of Colorblind, which focuses on the lack of wonder in Christians any more. That...

2010 should begin with you reading Mark Batterson's latest book, Primal: A Quest for the Lost Soul of Christianity. In this book Mark looks at the Great Commandment as the definition of the soul of Christian [loving God with all of our heart, soul mind and strength]. Mark takes these four ways of loving God and expounds on how each is essential for a Christian to mature into the follower of Christ. In each book that Mark has written he...
