How to Be a Perfect Christian

Your Comprehensive Guide to Flawless Spiritual Living

The Babylon Bee

About How to Be a Perfect Christian

With a biting, satirical style reminiscent of The OnionHow to Be a Perfect Christian takes a humorous look at the quirks of cultural Christianity while subtly challenging the reader to search for more than a cultural faith.

Written in the trademark style of The Babylon Bee, this book humorously satirizes cultural Christianity while peppering in subtle challenges to the reader. Through humor and sarcasm (and a handy meter to rank your "holiness" as you progress through the book), readers will be called to find a more biblical understanding of the Christian faith, all while poking fun at the quirks of the modern, American Christian community.

Praise

“I love the Babylon Bee, whose authors are the Jonathan Swift of our era. I’m rarely sure whether to laugh or cry. The only time I wasn’t giggling in this book was when I was wincing from a well-placed poke. What makes their stuff my favorite, however, is that it never degrades into cynical. It’s clear that behind their snarky humor is something they genuinely love: the church.”
—J. D. Greear, author of Not God Enough: Why Your Small God Leads to Big Problems and Stop Asking Jesus into Your Heart: How to Know for Sure You Are Saved

“Forget love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control! Perfection is so much better than the fruit of the Spirit. And, as the Babylon Bee’s How to Be a Perfect Christian shows, it’s a lot easier too.”
—Karen Swallow Prior, author of Booked: Literature in the Soul of Me and Fierce Convictions: The Extraordinary Life of Hannah More—Poet, Reformer Abolitionist

The Babylon Bee, a widely popular and rapidly growing Christian satire website with more than 500,000 social media followers since its launch in March 2016, is delivering 200 pages of laugh-out-loud humor in its first-ever book, How to Be a Perfect Christian: Your Comprehensive Guide to Flawless Spiritual Living (Multnomah, May 1, 2018).

Known for its satirical take on modern Christian culture, the Bee promises to make the reader a “poster child for Christian perfection” with this step-by-step guide—complete with visual aids such as the Holiness Progress Tracker 5000 to see how one is coming along on the scale of Satan to Jesus.

How to Be a Perfect Christian echoes the hilarious yet dry, relatable style of the Bee’s satirical news articles but features all brand new material expanded into essay-style chapters. Each of the chapters outlines a step toward achieving spiritual perfection including:

· worshipping like a pro
· doing life together
· looking really spiritual online (because if you haven’t posted your daily photo of your Bible placed next to your artisan, fair-trade, non-GMO coffee, are you even a Christian?)
· battling the culture wars and sticky issues like being friends with a Democrat

When read between the lines, How to Be a Perfect Christian challenges the notion that being a follower of Christ is nothing more than checking the right boxes and fitting in with American evangelical culture. Ultimately, the Bee aims to encourage readers to embrace a more biblically rooted understanding of their faith and to discover that God has more for them than cultural Christianity could ever offer.

“American Christianity is often so far removed from biblical Christianity that the satire writes itself,” says the Babylon Bee editors.

Daily, the Babylon Bee nails the idiosyncrasies and often-absurd intersection between modern Christianity, current events and politics, explaining why it has been called “the funniest thing on the internet.”  How to Be a Perfect Christian delivers on the Bee’s whip-smart satire that readers have come to expect.

As usual, my five point review:Alright, let's make sure we have this straight: THIS BOOK IS SATIRE. So, don't get all cray cray on me thinking we can really be "perfect Christians." You and I know that isn't exactly true (or possible). But now that we're clear... this book is hilarious--it is a must read if you enjoy The Babylon Bee. I have to admit I picked up this book for my husband. He LOVES The Babylon Bee, and I love watching him...

How to Be a Perfect Christian b the Babylon Bee is a great and light read! This book does a wonderful job at poking fun of the Christian subculture and making light of our quirks.  There is value in being able to laugh at ourselves and being aware of the stereotypes that are often placed on Christians.

How to Be the Perfect Christian is full of classic satirical fun at what Christians love most: everything from modern church worship (your worship team had better have nine people on it), to potlucks, to forcing every movie and activity into a Gospel parallel, the authors provide a lot of classic laughs at what the American church has become. Whether you need to know how to make the worship team work for your response or review the seven...

According to The Babylon Bee, the secret to being a perfect Christian is to conform utterly and totally to the church's current ways. The book about those ways, from the coffee shop to the Christian band, to the pastor's book you must read from. Christianity has changed a little, it seems, and How to be a Perfect Christian has a laser-like focus on what it is like today.Never blasphemous, but always irreverent, the book hits home in direct hit...
