About As Silver Refined

What Can You Do When Life Doesn’t Turn Out Like You Planned?

How do you respond when your husband or wife tramples your emotions?  When your boss fires you unexpectedly?  When you lose your life’s savings?  When the child you’ve loved and prayed for turns his back on you and your values?

When disappointments like these smash their way into your life, you may want to scream, “How could God let this happen?”

But what if God didn’t just “let it happen”?  What if the things you call disappointments are really His appointments—events He is using to make you more like Christ?  What if your circumstances are actually the flames of His grace, intended to melt and burn away the undesirable elements in your life, leaving you pure and radiant—like refined silver?

You can be defeated by life’s unavoidable disappointments, or you can become stronger because of them.

Life’s disappointments can send you on a dangerous downward spiral into discouragement, depression, or even despair.  But in this eye-opening book, Kay Arthur guides you to biblical truths that will help you break that cycle and instead embrace disappointment as the cleansing fire God uses to make you—as silver refined—a reflection of His goodness.

It's a quiet Saturday here at By Quiet Waters and I'm enjoying having a stuffed turkey in the oven, kids quietly puttering and the opportunity to clear off some of my to-dos. As I was doing some online decluttering I found a review that I neglected to post. As Silver Refined (Answers to Life's Disappointments) by Kay Arthur Maybe the reason this post was "shelved" for a while is because I struggled greatly to get through this book. ...

Sometimes life's not like it is in the movies. The guy doesn't get the girl. The Happily Ever After doesn't turn out so happy. Or as the old hymn says, "Friends may fail us, foes assail us!" What do we do when such is the case? How do we respond in such a way that builds our strength of christian character and glorifies God who is sovereign over every circumstance? In her book, As Silver Refined, author Kay Arthur gives us strong,...

My pastor has been preaching through the book of Job. One obvious lesson from Job's friends is how easy it is to give bad "encouragement" to people who are suffering. Kay Arthur's book As Silver Refined is an example of the opposite of Job's friends. It's filled with Scriptures, true stories, and warm encouragement for people who are in a season of suffering. My only complaint is that the book meanders. Joni Tada's When God Weeps is...

In this book we have presented God as a refiner and us as a piece of silver that is being worked upon. Only unlike the silver we can choose how the fire is refining us.. The silver is refined by being put in the fire. We on the same hand are refined by the fire of disappointment. Part of the refining fire Arthur seems to say is a form of warfare with Satan. She spends fifteen chapters in her style of presenting truth informing us that the...
