About Deadly Ties

A horrific crime shatters Lisa Harper’s idyllic childhood. Her father is dead and her desperate mother, Annie, quickly marries Dutch Hauk, an abusive monster who soon reveals his hatred for Lisa.  To protect her, Annie defies her ruthless husband and forfeits custody to a trusted friend. Enraged, Dutch vows to keep Annie and Lisa apart—and he does. Years later, though keenly aware of Dutch’s evil intent, Lisa and her mother seize a chance to be a family, safe in a home where love dwells. But they fail to fathom how far Dutch will go to keep his vow.
Determined to control his women, Dutch proves resourceful. His associates in crime are feared at the highest levels across the globe—and for Lisa they plan a fate worse than death. Yet she too has formidable connections, including former Special Operations Officer Mark Taylor. Burdened by his own traumatic past, Mark has loved Lisa from afar. Now, for Lisa and her mother to survive, Mark must risk his life—and even more difficult for him, he must trust God. All as one question haunts them: Can Mark and Lisa untangle these deadly ties before it’s too late?
“Vicki Hinze has…talent for transforming the unlikely into something beautiful.”

Praise for Deadly Ties

“DeadlyTies is Vicki Hinze at her absorbing best. Crisply written and fast-paced, Deadly Ties is a can’t-put-down story of depth, faith, and twists and turns that would put anyone to the test.”
—Carla Neggers, New York Times best-selling author

DeadlyTies is a compelling, suspenseful action-adventure novel with a believable faith-challenging message, not only for the characters but for the reader as well. Vicki Hinze captured my attention, heart, and emotions in this gripping tale of pain, healing, forgiveness, and second chances, complete with colorful characters and a tender, playful love story woven into a powerful drama. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in this series.”
—Nora St. Laurent, founder of The Book Club Network and ACFWBook Club Coordinator

Deadly Ties by Vicki Hinze is suspense candy! This is one of Vicki’s best yet and is full of unexpected twists and turns that will have you up late at night with the light on determined to finish this book before daylight. The characters are real and will kidnap your heart. Read this book! (But make coffee.)”
—Freeda Foreman

“As expected, Deadly Ties filled my need for encouragement and though it explored some rather disturbing issues, its consistent reminder of God’s omnipotence was a welcomed comfort.”

Praise for Vicki Hinze

“Tense, breathless, multi-layered - and highly recommended.”
—Lee Child New York Times bestselling author

“Hinze has written a masterful, complicated tale of suspense that gains momentum with each turn of a page. Her writing flows surely, moving from one character to the next, one setting to another, with readers keeping the swift pace.”
Publisher’s Weekly

“Fans of Christian suspense will enjoy Hinze’s latest thriller.”
Library Journal

“[Hinze] keeps the pace brisk and the tension high. Don’t start reading too late at night—you may see 2 a.m.”

“Excellent characterization and a compelling plot draw the reader in and never lets go. Perhaps most importantly, the novel addresses the universal question of the purpose of pain and the importance of faith when all hope seems lost. Evil is unapologetically painted black and bold, making the redemptive power of Christ seem all that much more powerful. Deadly Ties is absolutely magnificent.”

Deadly Ties is book two in her Crossroads Crisis Center series. I have not read Forget Me Not and plan to do so soon. You may appreciate this story better if you've read them both. It is still a good book even if you haven't. There are some really good characters in this story. Lisa Harper had a difficult childhood. Now she's all grown up and now she's strong and has started spending her time at the women's crisis center. But what she...

I liked Forget Me Not, the first book in this series and looked forward to receiving a review copy of Deadly Ties. Vicki pens a very powerful, suspenseful and nail biting tale I couldn't stop reading. A few characters from Forget Me Not returned in this book in a minor way, which I enjoyed. This book reminded me of a 007 movie. Nina - Nihilists in Anarchy is a bad international organization whose members were dedicated to making money any...

I have to say, I didn't realize until after I was done reading this book that it was part of a series. I am eager to get the first book, Forget Me Not, to read as well. It is often easy to get lost when starting in the second book of a series. This was not the case with this one. There was enough background there to make the story believable, yet, it didn't give away the entire first book. Hence, I want to read the first one. This...

Mark and Lisa both have grown up with bad experiences in their past. Lisa's mother is still with the man who is both an abuser and sadist. Annie feels that she has no other choice but to stay with him. Ms. Hinze portrays an excellent picture of the cycle of abuse and helplessness that is shown to the victims. Mark dealing with his own past, loves Lisa, but from far away as he is scared to hurt her as well. But when Dutch steps into her life...
