The verse cards in the deck feature obscure, ludicrous, or downright outrageous Bible verses pulled completely out of their original context. The prompt cards offer fun, contemporary situations into which those Bible verses can be inserted, with topics ranging from family dynamics and dating to popular culture and the workplace. Players can cast lots or go with the Noah (most pets) or Sarah (best laugh) rules to decide who will be the Theologian first, and then begin the battle to see who will earn the most "Treasures in Heaven" (points).

Anthony Russo is the creator of The Bible Is Funny Instagram and one half of the duo Isaac Improv, which offers clean comedy content online and at Christian events across the country. A popular comedy performer, Russo grew up memorizing Scripture—partly in his pursuit to understand God's Word, but probably more so in his pursuit of badges for his Awana vest. The Bible can be intimidating. Although we know the text is rich and full of wisdom, sometimes we just want to have some fun. Enter clean comedian Anthony Russo, personality behind @thebibleisfunny on Instagram and The Bible Is Funny Podcast host, and now, the creator of The Bible Is Funny Card Game (Ink & Willow, 6/6/23), which brings the Bible and joy together, encouraging laughter while engaging with God’s word.
This hilarious fill-in-the-blank card game invites players, ages 12 and up, to match out-of-context biblical verses with prompts about everyday situations, from family dynamics and relationships to popular culture and the workplace. Once all the cards are in, the “theologian” of the round chooses the funniest pairing. As game play continues, Russo says that Bible enthusiasts and novices alike find themselves in a high-spirited battle to earn the most “Treasures in Heaven” points, players are sure to discover lots of laughs and may even end up cracking open the Bible to prove that certain verses are truly in there.
“When we introduce children to the Bible, we do it in creative ways - coloring sheets, dramatizations, talking vegetables,” Russo says. “As people mature, we find fewer options for imaginative ways to engage with the Bible. I started The Bible is Funny project to give people a practical, tangible way to do that with their friends and family.”
