About The Tapestry of Grace

When a group of Kansas women start a Frauenverein, a benevolent society devoted to aiding widows and orphans, life changes for more than just the hurting people they seek to help in this heartwarming romance inspired by historical events—from the bestselling author of Freedom’s Song.

With classes paused for the planting season, Alexandertol’s schoolteacher Augusta Dyck is glad for some meaningful work to occupy her time. She even knows exactly who their town’s benevolence society should help first: quiet, reserved widower Konrad Rempel and his young twin sons.

Konrad Rempel, however, is adamant that he doesn’t want help. His boys are mischievous but good-hearted. And though Konrad may be struggling, he doesn’t want anyone else sticking their nose in and telling him what his sons need. Or what he needs.

For her part, the charity’s founder Martina Krahn is relieved to have a reason to spend time outside her unhappy home. It even occurs to her that she may, through her work, encounter a boy in need of a family and so find a son for her husband since they have no children of their own.

Augusta, Konrad, and Martina each have deep needs and desires, and each imagines how they should be met: by reaching out or by being left alone. But God, indeed, knows best. Will the competing agendas of Alexandertol’s residents prevent them from receiving God’s help? Or will the members of this small Mennonite community find the answers to their prayers in the very last place they expect—in one another?

Bestselling Author Kim Vogel Sawyer Returns to Historical Kansas with Unforgettable Characters and Powerful Prayers in Hope-Filled New Novel

Early Praise for The Tapestry of Grace:
“In this heartwarming story, Kim Vogel Sawyer reminds us that family doesn’t always mean people who are related by blood. With tender care, Sawyer has created characters with struggles, pain, and dreams that readers will recognize in their own lives. Through these fictional friends, we see how God’s unending love and grace can mend and restore what was once lost or broken. The pages of The Tapestry of Grace are filled with the kind of hope every one of us yearns for.”
—Michelle Shocklee,
Christianity Today Book Award–winning author of Count the Nights by Stars

The Tapestry of Grace is yet another story that shows Kim Vogel Sawyer’s amazing ability to take readers to a different era. Her research and authenticity are wonderful. Augusta and Konrad had me reading well past my bedtime. Told with a steady pace and wonderful details, this is a story that will hold your heart until the last page. I felt as if I lived in this small Kansas town, and frankly, I didn’t want to leave!”
Lenora Worth, author of The Christmas Quilt

Sipping tea on a sunny afternoon is exactly where readers will want to be when cozying up with award-winningauthor Kim Vogel Sawyer’s upcoming release, The Tapestry of Grace (WaterBrook; 4/18/22). While Publisher’s Weekly characterized Sawyer’s last novel, Still My Forever, as “a melodious second-chance romance” with rich lead characters, fans of faith fiction will similarly fall in love with her new group of memorable Mennonite characters for their admirable vulnerability, warmth, and acts of kindness.

Set in a quaint Kansas town, the heartwarming story of The Tapestry of Grace follows reserved widower Konrad Rempelas he attempts to raise his mischievous twin boys. Sawyer brilliantly details the growth of Konrad’s character, as he becomes the unwilling target of a well-intentioned Frauenverein—a women’s society that strives to help the sick, widowed, and orphaned members of their small community. While readers will find themselves enamored by historical details and entertained by the women’s wit and kindness, they will also be on the edge of their seat to see if the women’s outreach will be the unexpected answer to Konrad’s prayers.

Sawyer is a master at developing multiple storylines with unforgettable characters, andthe cast of The Tapestry of Grace is no different. While following Konrad’s journey, readers will also be swept away by the relatable stories of women involved in the Frauenverein, including its founder Martina Krahn and its first volunteer, Augusta Dyck, an energetic schoolteacher, who bothhave conflicting agendas behind being involved. Readers will be eager to find out whether this Mennonite community finds the answer to their prayers in one another.

Rooted inbiblical truth, The Tapestry of Grace is a reminder of the power of prayer and community. With the central theme of Hebrews 4:16 (“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need”),this historical fiction novel is an ideal book club pick for women’s groups, as well as a perfect gift for someone in need of escapism and encouragement.
