We offer unpaid internships with the following departments:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

–general proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint
–general proficiency in Adobe Acrobat
–strong verbal and written communication skills
–passion for books
–interest in exploring the publishing world

GENERAL DUTIES:

MAILING & FILING
–mail books to contest winners
–mail manuscript galleys to media reviewers
–maintain marketing and overflow bookshelves
–scan magazine publicity hits for archive
–miscellaneous filing for marketers

DATA ENTRY
–upload back cover copy and author bios to website and for retailers to pick up for their sites
–post chapter excerpts on our website and on Scribd
–post author videos/book trailers to our website, YouTube, and GodTube
–assist with meeting preparations (ie. handouts, PowerPoint, etc.)

SUPERVISED MARKETING WORK, may include:
–working with the Art department on banner ads, bookmarks, postcards, etc.
–collect content and draft monthly enewsletters
–schedule social media posts
–draft, edit, and proof marketing copy
–internet research

EDUCATIONAL & CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
–read published and/or pre-published books and trade publications
–participate in marketing strategy and audience identification discussions
–attend select meetings to gain deeper understanding of the publishing process

OTHER DUTIES, may include:
–assist with hospitality arrangements for visiting authors
–general office support

–mail manuscript galleys to endorsers
–maintain editorial bookshelves
–track manuscript submissions

DATA ENTRY
–update endorser lists
–assist with meeting notes

SUPERVISED EDITORIAL WORK, may include:
–manuscript reviews
–draft, edit, and proof marketing/sales copy
–internet research

EDUCATIONAL & CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
–read published and/or pre-published books and trade publications
–read proposals and participate in acquisition discussions
–attend select meetings to gain deeper understanding of the publishing process

OTHER DUTIES, may include:
–assist with hospitality arrangements for visiting authors
–general office support

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

–general proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel; prefer InDesign CS5 proficiency as well
–strong verbal and written communication skills
–clear grasp of grammar
–passion for words/books
–interest in exploring the publishing world

GENERAL DUTIES:

MAILING & FILING
–mail manuscript galleys to freelancers
–maintain managing editor’s bookshelves
–assist with maintaining production and work-in-progress files

DATA ENTRY may include:
—archive digital files
—locate digital files for use as e-books, subrights, etc.
—update freelance database

SUPERVISED PRODUCTION EDITORIAL WORK may include:
—manuscript coding
—copyediting and proofreading manuscripts and reprint corrections
—assisting with production of trade paper conversions, reissued books, or advance reading copies

EDUCATIONAL & CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
—follow books as they go through the production process
—attend select meetings to gain a deeper understanding of the publishing process
—learn about production scheduling from copyedit to book going to print
—introduction to manuscript coding, as it relates to how the printed page will appear
—gain copyediting and proofreading experience

OTHER DUTIES may include:
—general office support

In exchange for this unprecedented experience, you must receive college credit (with written permission and affirmation of credits earned from your school). Please note, housing and transportation are not provided.
