God’s Goal for You

Researchers wanted to find out what made America’s great companies different from their mediocre counterparts. They discovered that the most successful companies set shockingly bold goals that inspired fanatical loyalty from their employees.

For example, Google’s goal is “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.” Walmart’s goal was to become the world’s largest retailer. To explain this phenomenon, Built to Last authors Jim Collins and Jerry Porras coined the term “Big Hairy Audacious Goal,” or BHAG for short.

God has a BHAG for your life—a shockingly bold goal. In God’s case, it’s a Big Holy Audacious Goal. It’s clear. It’s compelling. It’s inspiring. And it’s supremely simple. Once you become a believer, God’s BHAG is for you to become His disciple. That is the whole new, higher purpose of your life.
