About Bending Toward the Sun
Divided between the love of her father and the desires of her heart, Emilie Heinrich must rely on the love and wisdom of the women in her quilting circle for support. Since Emilie is dedicated to her education and to helping her father in his general store, she is convinced she doesn't have time for love. But when a childhood friend returns to St. Charles, Missouri, after serving in the Civil War, his smile and charm captures Emilie’s eye and her heart.
Quaid McFarland has a gentleness and humor that causes Emilie to question her indifference toward romance. But her German father sees only one thing when he looks at the young man: an Irish teamster. And Johann Heinrich is not about to let such a man court his beloved daughter.
Her father’s prejudices test Emilie’s faith in God’s ability to mend the patchwork pieces of her life. Will she be forced to choose between honoring her father and a future with a husband and family of her own?

I've been fascinated by the Holocaust since I was an adolescent. This book gave me a different perspective; Helped me understand the impact an event like that can have generations down the line. I thoroughly enjoyed the seamless writing style and voice of the author and highly recommend it.
Bending toward the Sun is a lovely tale of love lost and found Maren and Rutherford a tale of a long lasting love that lasted through a war, but then you have Emilie who is going to college and finishing her education when a young man comes into her life that stirs a longing in her that she thought had died long ago. Emilies father has other plans for his daughter as he thinks no man is good enough for his little girl. A great old...
Although everyone around her is falling in love and settling down, Emilie is focused on continuing her education and helping her father run their store. When a childhood friend returns from fighting in the Civil War, Emilie is forced to rethink her plans even if it means defying her father. Novellas are sometimes hard for me because I'm a character-driven reader, and it's hard to get to know characters in such a short time. However, I...
The Second book in The Quilted Heart series follows the stories of Emilie and Quaid. The story takes place in Mississippi where Quaid's Irish family moved to. Emilie lives with her father after her mother dies. He wants to send her to school and though she loves him she feels like he is keeping her from staying with her friends and the man she now finds quite attractive Quaid. I love this book! You can almost just fall right into the...

I had read the first book in the series and this was a continuation from the first book It has the same characters as the first book but focuses on a different couple than were the main characters previously. I am looking forward to continuing the story by reading the third book in the series. Each of the characters has their own conflict or...
