I've owned a copy of "The Bait of Satan" by John Bevere for years. A good friend gave it to me a few years ago and I've had the best of intentions to read it but for some reason I never have gotten around to it.

So when I agreed to review "Relentless" from Waterbrook Multnomah's Blogging for Books, I thought I better read the book and discover what it was all about. I received no compensation for my review. I received an e-book copy of "Relentless" in exchange for an honest review.

From book description:

Re•lent•less (ri lent/lis): an attitude or posture that is resolute, uncompromising, persistent, unyielding, constant, unstoppable, ruthless. The opposite of slacken, waver, or concede. If ever there was a need for followers of Jesus to be resolute in purpose, uncompromising for truth, persistent in faith, unyielding in hope, constant in love, and unstoppable in advancing the kingdom…it’s now! God is ruthless in His love and pursuit of us; it’s time for His Bride to reflect the same...

I found it hard to read "Relentless", at first I thought it was since this was my first contact with the author John Bevere. I decided to muddle through the book and give it a chance believing it was me who just didn't understand the authors writing style. After the first three chapters I began to realize that the author believes in prosperity gospel and I have not been able to find sound Biblical support for this doctrine. In the book the author shares that as Christians we are all equipped with everything we need to live a successful life. (So if this is true than where does God fit into all this?) I noticed throughout the book there were times the author contradicted himself. In some instances he preached dependence on God and His grace through His Son Jesus Christ and then he would turn around and preach self-reliance since we've all been equipped with everything we need.

I found this book hard to swallow. I did read it from beginning to end, but I was very disappointed. I am not recommending this book to new Christians who have not spent time in God's Word. If you do read this book you need to be careful and study out each thing that is preached about doing it yourself.

Honestly, I was very disappointed.

Until Next Time,

M
