Divorce. Job loss. Estrangement from family members. Broken friendships.

The difficult circumstances you are dealing with today are likely being fed by one of the four emotional forces that compels you to act in undesirable ways, sometimes even against your will.

Andy Stanley explores each of these destructive forces – guilt, anger, greed, and jealousy – and how they infiltrate your life and damage your relationships. He says that, left unchallenged, they have the power to destroy your home, your career, and your friendships.

It Doesn’t Happen Overnight

As I was reading through this book, my initial reaction was “I don’t deal with this”. But Andy has a great way of writing so practically and real-to-life that he lead me to understand that yes, of course I do deal with this. A lot.

The danger is that I may be in the early stages. I may not see the full effects of greed in my life. But I did identify symptoms. I may not realize that I have guilt, but yea it’s there. And early on is when you need to detect these things!

Think about it, it’s just like when you go to the doctor for a preventative checkup. You want them to find if there is something wrong with you as soon as possible!

Similarly, relationships, lives, and families are not destroyed overnight. We don’t wake up and all of a sudden everything has changed for the worse. It is a process. It is a series of choices, events, actions…

In this book, Andy does an excellent job of helping you to understand that we all do struggle with these destructive forces throughout our lives and offers practical advice and wisdom to help you get ahead of it.

If I were you, I would read this book! Let me know if you’d like to borrow it.
