The night Melaia, a sixteen-year-old priestess, witnesses a murder in the temple courtyard, she finds out that the stories of angels and shape-shifters aren’t myths. They’re real. A message found in the murdered man’s hand is only the beginning: “Now is payment due in full”. Sent to serve a king in a distant land, Melaia thought she could trust Trevin, the young kingsman guarding her, only to discover later that his motive the entire time was to betray her later. Then she discovers a shocking secret about the events surrounding her birth, and it becomes her task to find the three kyparis-wood harps and restore the stairway to heaven, allowing angels stranded in the earthly realm to return. Working against those trying to stop the stairway from being restored, Melaia must fulfill the ancient debt- breath of angel, blood of man- which only she is able to do.

From the description, I wasn’t really sure I would like this book, and it took me the first couple of chapters to really get into it, but then I just couldn’t put it down! I am really glad I chose this book to review, because I very, very much enjoyed it. This is my first Karyn Henley book, and I’m looking forward to reading others by her! I would definitely recommend this book.

I received this book free from the publisher in return for an honest review. My own truthful opinion is expressed here! 
