About Whisper

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY BESTSELLER • The question isn't whether God speaks. The question is what does He have to say to you? The New York Times bestselling author of The Circle Maker teaches readers how to listen to God.

WINNER OF THE ECPA CHRISTIAN BOOK AWARD FOR CHRISTIAN LIVING

The voice that spoke the cosmos into existence is the same voice that parted the Red Sea, and made the sun stand still in the midday sky. One day, this voice will make all things new, but it’s also speaking to you now!

That voice is God’s voice, and what we’ve learned from Scripture is that He often speaks in a whisper. Not to make it difficult to hear Him, but to draw us close.

Many people have a tough time believing God still speaks. Sure, in ancient times and in mysterious ways, God spoke to His people, but is He still speaking now?

Mark Batterson certainly believes so. And he wants to introduce you to the seven love languages of God; each of them unique and entirely divine. Some of them you might suspect but others will surprise you.

By learning to tune in to and decipher each language, you’ll be able to hear His guidance in simple as well as life-altering choices. God is actively speaking through: Scripture, Desires, Doors, Dreams, People, Promptings, and Pain. Batterson gives you the tools you need to unlock each of these languages.

God’s whisper can answer your most burning questions, calm your deepest fears, and fulfill your loftiest dreams.

Discover how simple it is to hear God’s voice in every aspect of your life!

He’s speaking, make sure you know how to listen!

The New York Times Best-selling Author Batterson Empowers People to Listen to the Most Important Voice in their Lives—God’s!
An Essential Guide that Unlocks God’s Seven Love Languages

Whisper Received the 2018 ECPA Book of the Year Award in the Christian Living Category

In The Circle Maker, prominent D.C. pastor and The New York Times best-selling author Mark Batterson taught readers how to talk to God. Now in Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God (Multnomah, Oct. 24, 2017), he provides lucid, biblical teaching alongside compelling stories to equip believers in how to listen to God.

“It is His voice that will unveil your identity and reveal your destiny,” Batterson says. “And if you want to find your voice, it starts with hearing His voice.”

In his conversational style, Batterson walks readers through the different ways God speaks to His people, through seven love languages: Scripture (God’s first language), Desires, Doors, Dreams, People, Prompting, and Pain.

From the biggest most gut-wrenching decisions to the seemingly simple choices we all face, Mark Batterson believes God cares to speak into our lives and does so more often than we realize.

Batterson, who has spoken at congressional retreats and given spiritual advice to professional athletes, unveils why God usually speaks to people in a whisper and not in a loud voice. He asks, “Is the Still Small Voice the loudest voice in your life? He points out that “learning to hear the voice of God is the solution to a thousand problems!”

Since people are bombarded by many different voices and distractions that can deafen God’s voice, he encourages readers to set boundaries in their lives and find a “whispering spot” so they can find peace and quiet to really listen. “It’s silence that helps us hear God’s voice and sing God’s song,” Batterson emphasizes.

To help inspire readers to draw closer to God’s whispers, he draws lessons from the lives of numerous historical figures including inventor George Washington Carver and scientist Edwin Hubble.

Like Batterson’s previous books, Whisper is a very accessible read that will have wide appeal, no matter where people may be on their faith journey. Whether for the one who says, “C’mon, God doesn’t speak to me!” or a veteran believer who needs a refresher on discerning God’s voice, Whisper will help people unlock the language of God and grow closer to the One who spoke the universe into existence.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Mark Batterson is the author of 20 books including the ECPA Christian Book award-winning Whisper, USA Today bestseller Chase the Lion and The New York Times best-seller The Circle Maker. God Speaks in Whispers, a sweet children's picture book which he co-wrote with his daughter Summer, was inspired by Whisper and will be available September 8, 2020 from Multnomah. He’s the founder and lead pastor of National Community Church (NCC), one church with seven campuses throughout Washington D.C. NCC, known as one of the most innovative and influential churches in America, also owns and operates Ebenezers Coffeehouse, the Miracle Theatre, and the DC Dream Center.

Since 2001, NCC (comprised largely of single twenty-somethings) has invested more than $19.3 million in kingdom causes. They’ve also taken 228 mission trips around the world. NCC resettles 65% of refugees in DC area—helping them furnish apartments, find employment, and acclimate to America. In 2018, they served 6,000 meals to their friends experiencing homelessness, helping some of them find a place to live. National Community Church’s DC Dream Center offers programs including one-on-one mentorship, tutoring and reconciliation lunches, which facilitate an environment where urban and suburban, rich and poor, young and old, as well as all races and ethnicities can come together to establish friendships.

Five years ago, NCC purchased the Navy Yard Car Barn, the last building standing in the city that relates to the cable car era. In 2018, NCC began renovating and restoring this 1891 block-long building to transform it into a ministry hub to be a blessing to the city. The three phases of this project are:
1) 1,000 seat event venue “The Capital Turnaround” (opened Summer 2019) allowing NCC to have a 24/7 ministry and outreach space while also generating income to impact more people
2) child development center to meet D.C.’s desperate need in the area of providing trustworthy and accessible care of children between 6 weeks-5 years old (Jan. 2020 targeted opening)
3) the mixed-use marketplace, which will serve as an incubator for entrepreneurs and creatives and a community hub where people can work, eat, and play.

Batterson has been interviewed on many media outlets including The Washington Post, “The Glenn Beck Program,” Christianity Today, Religion News Service, The Startup Camp Podcast, Forbes.com, “The 700 Club” and the “NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.” Batterson has a doctor of ministry degree from Regent University and lives in the Capitol Hill area with his wife and their three children.
