WaterBrook Mission

WaterBrook publishes Christian books that seek to intensify and satisfy a reader’s elemental thirst for a deeper relationship with God. We seek messages that draw on the Bible, experiential learning, story, practical guidance, and inspiration to help readers thrive in their faith.

Multnomah Mission

Multnomah publishes Christian resources that proclaim the Gospel and equip followers of Jesus to make disciples. We seek timeless messages from trusted Christian voices that challenge readers to approach life from a biblical perspective.

History

WaterBrook and Multnomah are two imprints of Penguin Random House. WaterBrook was launched in September 1996 as an autonomous publishing imprint of Doubleday with the intent to publish books for Christians. Since the release of our first books in 1998, our publishing program has grown dramatically through the expansion of WaterBrook as well as the purchase of Harold Shaw Publishers in 2000 and acquisition of Multnomah Books in August 2006. Today the WaterBrook and Multnomah backlists feature a stellar roster of best-selling authors including Liz Curtis Higgs, David Platt, Randy Alcorn, Kay Arthur, Mark Batterson, Cindy Woodsmall, Chris & Kerry Shook, Joanna Weaver, Stephen Arterburn, Shannon Ethridge, John Piper, Steven Furtick, Shaunti Feldhahn, Andy Stanley, Francine Rivers, Nick Vujicic, Kim Vogel Sawyer, Joshua Harris, Bruce Wilkinson, and many more.

Today

While the foundational Christian perspective of our publishing program remains unchanged, the focus of each imprint is distinct. WaterBrook publishes books in the areas of practical life, inspiration and encouragement, devotional, relationships and parenting, biography, memoir, topical Bible study, justice, and spiritual warfare along with captivating works of fiction and children’s books. Multnomah publishes books in the areas of discipleship and spiritual growth, Christian living, Bible study, apologetics, theology, devotional, evangelism, pastoral helps, leadership as well as children’s books and works of uplifting fiction.

Distinctives

As imprints of Penguin Random House—the largest English-language publisher in the world—WaterBrook and Multnomah compete with the best publishers the world while seeking to serve our readers and the Church at a personal level. We foster a small company atmosphere, allowing for entrepreneurial thought, creativity, and innovation, while also leveraging the benefits of deep corporate support. That combination allows us to bring the best of both worlds to our authors, partners, and readers. Our experienced leadership team brings a high level of expertise in all areas, as well as an informed and experienced publishing approach that is on par with the very best in the world.
